Chennai Super Kings are one of the most consistent IPL franchises — and at Chepauk, one of the most tactically interesting fantasy cricket challenges. The slow, turning Chepauk surface completely changes which player types score best. Knowing the venue is the biggest edge you can have with CSK picks.
CSK Key Fantasy Picks for IPL 2026
Ruturaj Gaikwad — Captain & Reliable Opener
Gaikwad has been CSK's most consistent fantasy asset over the last three seasons. As captain and opener, he faces maximum deliveries and has proven he can score big on the turning Chepauk surface. His technique handles slow bowling better than most IPL openers — a reliable pick for any format.
Sanju Samson — Sole Wicketkeeper & Explosive Top-Order Bat
Samson was a marquee addition for CSK in 2026. With MS Dhoni out injured, Samson is now CSK's confirmed wicketkeeper — meaning he locks in both keeper bonus points AND batting contributions every match. He opens or bats at No. 3, and has a ceiling of 70-80 points on a big day. His keeper role is now guaranteed for the first 2+ weeks, making him even better value.
Noor Ahmad — Spinner in the Right Conditions
At Chepauk, Noor Ahmad is a premium pick. His left-arm wrist spin turns and bounces on the slow surface — he will take wickets here. Away from Chennai, his value drops. Always check the venue before picking Noor Ahmad, but at home he's one of CSK's best fantasy picks.
Shivam Dube — All-Rounder with Big-Hitting Upside
Dube bats in the middle order and bowls a few overs of medium pace. His six-hitting ability is exceptional (+4 pts per six) and he consistently scores 30–50 in a short cameo. A strong vice-captain or value pick when he's in form.
⚠️ Injury Alert — CSK 2026 (Updated March 30)
- 🚨 MS Dhoni — OUT with a calf strain. Expected to miss at least the first two weeks of IPL 2026 (possibly until late April). Sanju Samson takes over as CSK's wicketkeeper. Do NOT pick Dhoni for early-season matches.
- 🚨 Dewald Brevis — OUT with a side strain for Match 3 vs RR (March 30). CSK are optimistic about his return for April 3 vs PBKS but not confirmed. Matthew Short is his replacement in the XI.
- Nathan Ellis — Ruled out for the ENTIRE IPL 2026 season (hamstring injury). Avoid completely.
- Matthew Short — Originally doubtful (fractured thumb), now available and in the XI while Brevis recovers. Useful batting/fielding option.
CSK Captain & Vice-Captain Picks
- Home games at Chepauk: Ruturaj Gaikwad — the safest CSK captain on a turning surface
- High-variance captain: Sanju Samson — now confirmed WK + explosive bat. If he fires, 2× on 70+ runs is match-winning
- Bowler captain at Chepauk: Noor Ahmad — genuine option if conditions are heavily spin-friendly
- Vice-Captain: Shivam Dube — consistent contributor in both batting and bowling
- Avoid: MS Dhoni (OUT — calf strain, 2+ weeks) and Dewald Brevis (OUT — side strain, return TBC)
Chepauk Venue Strategy
- Slow, turning pitch — spinners are essential picks for CSK home games
- Scores tend to be lower here (155–175) — don't overload on batsmen
- CSK's spinners (Noor Ahmad, Rahul Chahar) are significantly better here than away
- Pace bowlers go for runs at Chepauk — reduce pace picks in favour of spinners
- Experienced batsmen handle the turning track better — avoid inexperienced young batsmen
