The board
Three IPL franchises run down the left side as rows. Three categories run across the top as columns. That gives you 9 squares, each one the intersection of a team and a category. Pick a real cricketer who fits both, and the square locks in.
What the categories mean
- Country — the player's nationality, e.g. Australia or Pakistan.
- Role — Batter, Bowler, All-rounder, or Wicketkeeper, as recorded in their playing profile.
- A career-stat threshold — e.g. '100+ International Wickets' or '5,000+ International Runs'. These are checked against real career totals, not an estimate.
- A format tag — e.g. 'Played Test Cricket' or 'T20I Specialist (no Tests)', meaning they've played T20Is internationally but never a Test.
How to actually solve a square
Start with whichever square feels most obvious, usually a team you follow closely crossed with a broad category like Batter or Country. Getting one square right doesn't reveal anything about the others, so there's no real penalty for guessing your best square first and saving the harder ones for last.
When a square looks impossible, think about the team's overseas signings first. A team's IPL roster mixes players from several countries, and an unusual country-and-team combination is often filled by exactly the one overseas player you'd forget to check.
Scoring
Your score is simply how many of the 9 squares you got right. There's no time pressure and no bonus for speed. One attempt per square means there's no partial credit for a near-miss, so it's worth pausing on a square before submitting a name rather than guessing quickly and hoping.
