England's Australian summer starts with white-ball cricket: three ODIs in Perth, Adelaide and Hobart from 13 November, then five T20Is in Melbourne, Carrara, Brisbane, Sydney and Canberra before 2 December. The tour finishes in March with a one-off Test at the MCG, the 150th Anniversary Test, which has its own guide.
For Indian fans the timings are friendly. The ODIs are day-night games that start at 9:00 AM IST, and the T20Is are evening games at 1:45 PM IST. Squads for both sides have not been announced yet, and this guide is updated when they are.
Three day-night ODIs, 13 to 18 November
Five T20Is, 21 November to 2 December
The grounds, one by one
- Perth Stadium (1st ODI): a big modern ground with a reputation for pace and bounce, which suits genuine quicks and aggressive top-order batters.
- Adelaide Oval (2nd ODI): a big, balanced ground where boundary size means a good innings is built rather than slogged.
- Bellerive Oval, Hobart (3rd ODI): a more compact ground than Perth or Adelaide, where seamers can find movement under cloud.
- MCG (1st T20I): the largest ground in Australia. Look for fielders who can cover ground and bowlers who can keep the ball out of the arc.
- Carrara Oval (2nd T20I) and The Gabba (3rd T20I): two Queensland grounds with true bounce, so batters who play straight tend to do well.
- SCG (4th T20I): often helps spin as the evening goes on, which makes a leg-spinner a sensible captain pick.
- Manuka Oval, Canberra (5th T20I): the last stop of the tour and a ground where scores can be high on a good evening.
Fantasy approach for ODI then T20I
- Do not carry T20 picks into the ODIs. Anchors who bat through the innings and bowlers who finish ten overs score more over 50 overs than a hitter who plays a few big shots.
- Back allrounders in both formats. Players who bat in the top six and bowl a full allocation score in two ways, and they are the safest captain options.
- Watch the schedule. Five T20Is in twelve days means rotation, so check the confirmed XI before the lock rather than relying on the squad list.
- Use Draft or Multi-Draft for the T20I leg: with five matches in a row, picking a squad across several matches rewards players who play every game.
The ODI starts at 9:00 AM IST are early on weekdays. Build your XI the night before and use match reminders so you do not miss the lock.
What to expect
Australia are strong at home in both formats and England will arrive with a different mix for each. The T20Is, with their big grounds and evening starts, are likely to be the closer series. Once squads are announced, this guide will name the best captain and vice-captain options. Until then, play a free Predictor game for the first ODI.
