West Indies are in Bangladesh for a two-Test series, with the first Test starting on 28 October in Mirpur and the second on 5 November in Sylhet. It is a compact series with only two matches, so the first Test sets the tone.
There is a three-day tour match in Dhaka (22 to 24 October) before the first Test. Squads have not been announced yet, so this guide covers the schedule, the grounds and the approach for fantasy, and will be updated when squads are out.
Schedule
Mirpur and Sylhet: two different grounds
- Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur (1st Test): Bangladesh's main Test venue, known for slow, turning pitches that wear through the match. Spinners usually bowl the most overs.
- Sylhet International Cricket Stadium (2nd Test): the second Test comes eight days later at a different venue, so check the pitch report on the match page rather than assuming it plays like Mirpur.
Fantasy approach for subcontinent Tests
- Pick the spinners who will bowl the most. A left-arm or off-spinner who bowls 40 overs across a Test earns more points than a seamer on a slow surface.
- Allrounders who bat in the top seven and bowl spin are the best captain options because they score in both departments.
- Do not overload on batters. Runs are harder to come by on pitches that turn from day three.
- Check the playing XI for the number of spinners. If a team picks three spinners and one seamer, put your points where the overs are.
Day-one spin in Mirpur is common, but the second-innings pitch is where Tests are won. Prioritise bowlers who will bowl in both innings, and use Predictor to back the side that wins the toss and bats first.
What to expect
Bangladesh are strong at home in Tests, especially in Mirpur, and West Indies will have to find a spin answer quickly. A 2-0 or 1-0 home win is the most likely result. Make your own call in a free Predictor game once the toss is done.
