Every women match is at one ground: Korogi Sports Park (also written Kōrogi) in Nisshin city, Aichi Prefecture. The Hindu and Sportstar both describe it as sitting on the outskirts of Nagoya. Start times on the official board are 9:00 and 14:00 Japan Standard Time, which is 5:30 AM and 10:30 AM IST. Day one proved the outfield matters as much as the pitch. Bangladesh versus China was abandoned without a toss because the square was too wet. Pakistan versus Thailand started late and was cut to 11 overs a side for the same reason. Any medal prediction that ignores rain and a single-venue queue is guessing.

Format: four quarter-finals, then medals

Unlike the men event, the women tournament has no league stage. Japan qualified as hosts. India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka entered as regional full members. China, Thailand and Malaysia completed the eight. The official knockout draw, with ticket codes CKT01 to CKT08, is:

Bangladesh vs China: no toss, Bangladesh through

PTI, filed from Nagoya, reported that the first quarter-final was called off without the captains reaching the middle. Sportstar cited playing condition 16.10.2 (b): the higher-ranked side advances after a washout. Bangladesh sit 10th on the ICC T20I ranking list in that report; China are 36th. Nigar Sultana Joty's side therefore go to Sunday afternoon without having faced a ball at these Games. China are out.

Pakistan vs Thailand: 11 overs, three wickets, two balls left

Same wet ground, later start, game reduced to 11 overs a side. Fatima Sana won the toss and bowled. Thailand made 91 for 4. Wicketkeeper Nannapat Koncharoenkai hit 49 off 38 with seven fours until Sana trapped her lbw in the last over. PTI named Shawaal Zulfiqar (25) and Fatima Sana (21) as Pakistan's main scores, and Off-spinners Onnicha Kamchomphu (3 for 37) and Sunida Chaturongrattana (2 for 23) as Thailand's wicket-takers. Sportstar added that Tuba Hassan, Eman Naseer and Umm-e-Hani closed a nervy chase with two balls to spare. Pakistan won by three wickets and will play Sri Lanka on Sunday morning.

Sri Lanka vs Malaysia: Athapaththu 63, Sri Lanka win by 86

IANS, from Nisshin on 18 September, had Sri Lanka 160 for 4 and Malaysia 74 for 7 in 20 overs. Chamari Athapaththu made 63 off 37 and took two wickets. Kavisha Dilhari made 44 off 27. Harshitha Samarawickrama made 25 off 18. Sri Lanka, silver medallists at Hangzhou 2023 and runners-up to India at the Women Asia Cup final in Dubai last week, are in Sunday's morning semi-final against Pakistan.

India vs Japan: toss, XI, live state

This is the first India Women vs Japan Women meeting in international cricket, per Mint's live desk. Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and fielded. Kamalini (wk), Bharti Fulmali, Sree Charani, Renuka Thakur, Kranti Gaud, Arundhati Reddy, Shreyanka Patil (subject to fitness), Radha Yadav, Nandni Sharma.

Jemimah Rodrigues was ruled out on 14 August after a high-grade right hamstring tear suffered at The Hundred on 3 August. Pratika Rawal replaced her for the Asia Cup; a BCCI source told IANS on 9 September that Pratika is also on the 15 submitted for the Asian Games. Shreyanka Patil, originally asterisked for an ankle injury from the T20 World Cup, travelled and was in Friday's XI. India arrive as Hangzhou gold medallists (beat Sri Lanka by 19 runs in the 2023 final: India 116 for 7, Sri Lanka 97 for 8) and as 2026 Women Asia Cup winners against the same opponent in Dubai. That is the form case. The squad case is a near first-choice T20 side minus Jemimah.

Muneeba Ali did not travel after a family bereavement; Gull Feroza kept wicket. Pakistan won gold at Guangzhou 2010 and Incheon 2014, then finished fourth at Hangzhou (lost the bronze match to Bangladesh by five wickets). They are in a semi-final, but the Thailand chase showed the batting is brittle in the wet.

Nigar Sultana Joty captains; Nahida Akter is vice-captain on the BCB list released for Asia Cup and the Games together. Hangzhou bronze. They have not played a ball here. That is luck, not a form statement. Sunday against India (if India beat Japan) is a replay of the Hangzhou semi-final, which India won by eight wickets after bowling Bangladesh out for 51.

Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, China

Japan, captained by Mai Yanagida, have a home crowd and a first-ever shot at India. Thailand pushed Pakistan to the last two balls of an 11-over chase and are out. Malaysia were beaten comprehensively by Sri Lanka and are out. China never got on the field and are out.

Who can win a medal?

Gold: India are the rightful favourites if they close out Japan, because this is still a first-choice T20 unit coming off an Asia Cup title. Sri Lanka are the only other side that has just played India in a continental final and has Athapaththu in this kind of touch. Pakistan can beat anyone on a used, damp Nisshin surface, which is not the same as saying they should be priced for gold. Bangladesh are in a medal semi-final on ranking after a washout; that path is real, the cricket is still to be played.
