Men cricket at the 2026 Asian Games was a 10-team T20 event at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Aichi, from 24 September to 3 October. Pakistan named Sahibzada Farhan captain and left out Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shadab Khan and Salman Ali Agha (Dawn, PCB squad announcement). Afghanistan's board published a 15 under Darwish Rasooli drawn largely from the 2026 Shpageeza League, not the Rashid Khan T20 core. Sri Lanka are led by Sahan Arachchige, with ThePapare describing a mix of seniors and uncapped names rather than the full white-ball side. India are the exception: Shreyas Iyer captains a BCCI T20 group that still includes Jasprit Bumrah, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma and Arshdeep Singh.

Gold medal match: India beat Pakistan by 19 runs
Shreyas Iyer won the toss and batted, and India had 50 up in 3.2 overs. Abhishek Sharma reached his fifty off 20 balls and finished on 61 off 28 with seven sixes, and India were 114/3 at the halfway drinks break. The finish came from Tilak Varma, who reached 50 off 21 balls and was 51 not out off 22, adding 50 in 25 balls for the sixth wicket with Shivam Dube (27 off 15). India passed 200 in the last over and closed on 211/6.
Pakistan were 39/2 after the powerplay and 76/3 at drinks. Hasan Nawaz kept them in it: fifty off 28 balls, a 50-run stand in 29 balls with Saim Ayub, and 96 off 51 with seven sixes before he fell in the final over. Saad Masood added 12 off 5 at the end, but 192/6 left Pakistan 19 short. Axar Patel and Washington Sundar each took 2/29 from their four overs, and Dube backed up his runs with 2/33.
Bronze medal match: Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by 63 runs
Sri Lanka chose to bat and made 165/9, with Tharindu Ratnayake top-scoring on 65 off 32. Bangladesh were bowled out for 102 in 17.3 overs. Ratnayake (2/18), Wanuja Sahan (2/17), Nuwan Thushara (2/18) and Vijayakanth Viyaskanth (2/26) shared the wickets, so Sri Lanka took bronze two days after being bowled out for 45 by India in the semi-final. Bangladesh, bronze medallists in Hangzhou 2023, finish fourth.
Semi-final results, 1 October
Pakistan's win was the closer of the two by a long way: a rain-reduced 13-over sprint that came down to the last over, with Sahibzada Farhan's side holding on by a single run after choosing to field first. India's was the opposite: Shreyas Iyer won the toss, Sri Lanka chose to field, and India's 169/7 proved more than double what Sri Lanka could chase, bowled out for 45 inside 10 overs. That result sets up a repeat of a fixture India and Pakistan have played twice in 2026 already (India won one, the other went to a Super Over), now for a medal rather than a bilateral series.
Four washouts in a row is not a fluke of scheduling, match reports on the fourth abandonment noted it "completed a quartet of rained off matches" across just two days, with Bangladesh vs Malaysia called off two hours before the scheduled toss and the teams told not to even bother turning up at the venue. Under the Asian Games tournament regulations, a washed-out knockout match is not replayed or shared on points, the higher-ranked side (by ICC T20I team ranking at the time of the draw) goes through. That is a real result for qualification purposes, even though no ball was bowled.

1st Semi-Final: Pakistan beat Bangladesh by 1 run, rain-reduced 13 overs
A repeat of the 2023 Hangzhou bronze-medal match, which Bangladesh won; this time Pakistan got the win, and by the narrowest possible margin. Rain cut the match to 13 overs a side; Bangladesh, under Litton Das, posted 111/7, with Towhid Hridoy top-scoring on 42 off 25. Sahibzada Farhan's Pakistan got there with three balls in hand, 112/4, Sufyan Moqim's 3/26 the pick of the bowling earlier in the innings. Bangladesh's best Asian Games finish remains gold in 2010; this result ends their run at a fourth straight semi-final/medal-match appearance without gold.
2nd Semi-Final: India beat Sri Lanka by 124 runs
No contest in the end. Shreyas Iyer won the toss, Sri Lanka chose to field, and India posted 169/7 with Ishan Kishan making 80 off 46 balls. Sri Lanka never recovered: Abhishek Sharma's 2/2 helped bowl them out for 45 in 9.5 overs, their lowest total of the tournament and the margin of defeat India's heaviest Asian Games win on record. India arrived unbeaten in every match actually played this window: wins over Afghanistan (twice) and a tense 2-run win over Japan, and the semi-final continued that run comfortably, a contrast with Sri Lanka's four defeats in their last four completed matches before this game.
Match reports had said, after the quarter-final washouts, that the weather forecast for Nisshin "is better for the semi-final and the medal match day", and both semi-finals were played to a full or rain-adjusted result rather than being washed out, bearing that out. On 16 September 2026 BCCI updated the Japan T20I and Asian Games party in the same note as the West Indies ODI squad. Varun Chakaravarthy is out with a side strain from the first Afghanistan T20I in Delhi. Vipraj Nigam replaces him. Nitish Kumar Reddy, originally in the Games squad, was withdrawn to play the West Indies ODIs.

That is still a serious T20 group: Iyer as captain, Tilak as vice-captain, Bumrah and Arshdeep with the new ball, Abhishek and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi at the top. Hardik Pandya is not in this 14. Suryakumar Yadav is not in this 14 either. Iyer took over as T20I captain earlier in 2026 after the home World Cup. A June viral post claiming Yadav had retired came from a fake X account; neither BCCI nor Yadav has announced a retirement, and he has said he is still playing and wants a recall. For 2026 the Afghanistan Cricket Board, 17 August, named: Darwish Rasooli (c), Mohammad Ishaq (wk), Mohammad Akram, Hassan Eisakhil, Khalid Taniwal, Imran Mir, Faisal Khan Shinozada, Najibullah Zadran, Farmanullah Safi, Ismat Alam, Karim Janat, Nangyal Kharoti, Arab Gul Momand, Faridoon Dawoodzai, Abdullah Ahmadzai. Najibullah and Karim Janat are the recognised names. They beat Japan by 48 runs, then lost to Nepal by 5 wickets, and finished Group A runners-up, enough to reach the quarter-final against India on 28 September, which was washed out. Do not paste 2023 Afghanistan onto this 15.

Dawn listed: Abrar Ahmed, Ahmed Daniyal, Akif Javed, Ali Raza, Arafat Minhas, Haider Ali, Hasan Nawaz, Maaz Sadaqat, Mohammad Salman Mirza, Saad Masood, Saim Ayub, Sufyan Moqim, Usman Khan (wk). Four of those (Akif Javed, Ali Raza, Maaz Sadaqat, Saad Masood) were yet to debut in T20Is at announcement. Their quarter-final against Hong Kong on 28 September was washed out. Japan, hosts, captained by Kendel Kadowaki-Fleming, lost their opener to Afghanistan by 48 runs and the Nepal game was the no-result: 1 point, third in Group A, eliminated.
