Start where a big franchise meets a wide category, "India", "All-rounder" or "ODI cap". You get a valid answer quickly and see which star names are still free for harder cells.
2. Never repeat a player
Plan all nine before you submit. Using a popular all-rounder on an easy square may block you from the only valid answer on a niche square later.
3. Save the weird intersection for last
Rare decade tags or small countries may only have one qualifying name. Complete the rest of the row first, each pick shrinks the pool.
