Two WBBL clubs have changed captains for WBBL|12 and one has not named one yet. Brisbane Heat confirmed Georgia Redmayne on 23 September after Jess Jonassen stood down, and Melbourne Stars gave the job back to Meg Lanning on 12 October. Hobart Hurricanes lost Elyse Villani to retirement after their title win and have not announced a successor. This is the full list, with where each name comes from.

Melbourne Stars: Lanning replaces Sutherland
Annabel Sutherland captained the Stars for two seasons and decided to step aside so she can concentrate on her own game. Meg Lanning, who has played 109 WBBL matches and led the club in five earlier seasons, takes over. Sutherland stays in the leadership group.
Brisbane Heat: Redmayne takes over from Jonassen
Jess Jonassen stood down as captain after WBBL|11 but remains on the list. Georgia Redmayne, 32, the Queensland wicketkeeper-batter who led her state to the WNCL title last season, becomes the full-time captain. She has 87 Heat games and made her Heat captaincy debut in 2023/24.
The One Gap
Hobart Hurricanes have not announced a WBBL|12 captain. Heather Graham is captaining the side at the T20 Spring Challenge in Sydney, but that covers the tournament only and is not a WBBL|12 announcement. We will update this post when the club confirms.
What It Means for Season Fantasy
Real captains and your Season Fantasy captain are not the same thing. Your captain earns double points and your vice-captain 1.5 times, whoever leads the club. A real captain who is also the top scorer, such as Lanning at the Stars, is still the safer pick because the batting order is built around her, but you are choosing on points, not titles.
- Check availability before you lock a captain. Molineux and Litchfield have both been managing hip problems around the Australia series.
- Sana at Perth is available for the first eight games only, so she is a short-term captain option.
- You have 150 transfers for the whole tournament, so a late squad change costs you very little.
