BBL 2026/27 Venues: Average Scores, Chasing Records and Pitch Guide

Every BBL 2026/27 ground in numbers: average first-innings scores, chasing records, Powerplay and death-over run rates from the last five seasons, and what they mean for fantasy.

The Gabba and Perth Stadium might as well be different competitions. Over the last five BBL seasons, the team batting first at the Gabba averaged 181.5, while at Perth it was 158. Chasing teams have won 17 of 27 in Perth and split 23 games almost evenly in Brisbane. Your fantasy XI should know the difference.

These numbers cover BBL|11 to BBL|15. They include only games decided over the full 20 overs, so rain-shortened and abandoned games are left out.

All Main BBL Grounds Compared

BBL grounds, BBL|11 to BBL|15. Bat first-chase = wins batting first and chasing. PP = run rate in the four-over Powerplay. Death = run rate in overs 17 to 20.

Second-innings averages are not shown because a chase ends as soon as the target is reached, which makes them look lower than the conditions deserve.

The Gabba: Highest Scores in the League

The Gabba leads on first-innings average (181.5) and on death-over run rate (10.79). It also hosted the record 258 chase in December 2025. Load up on batters here, and rate bowlers on wickets more than economy.

Adelaide Oval: Fast From Ball One

Adelaide has the fastest Powerplay of the main grounds at 9.15 an over. New-ball bowlers are at risk here, and openers are the picks to prefer.

Perth Stadium: Where Bowlers Earn Their Points

Perth has the most wickets per game (14.2) and the slowest Powerplay (7.41). Pick your quicks here. Chasing has also won 17 of 27, so the toss matters.

MCG: Where Chasing Sides Lead

The record 273/2 came here, but it is the exception. The first-innings average is 158.7, there are only 8.3 sixes a game, and chasing sides lead 17-10. The MCG hosts the most games this season, with six.

SCG and Sydney Showground

The SCG averages 164.5 with 13.8 wickets a game, the second-most of the main grounds. Sydney Showground has a slow start, at 7.47 in the Powerplay, then 10.14 at the death. Its sample is only 14 games, so treat it with care.

Bellerive Oval and Manuka Oval

Bellerive averages 167.3 and chasing leads 14-11. Manuka is the quietest finish of the eight, at 8.37 at the death, though that comes from just 10 games.

Grounds With Too Little Data

  • MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai: hosts the opener, and has never staged a BBL game.
  • Junction Oval, Melbourne: three games this season, but only two BBL games in the five-season sample.
  • University of Tasmania Stadium, Launceston: one game this season and only four in the sample.

We have left these out of the table rather than draw conclusions from a handful of games.

How to Use This in Fantasy

  • Spend transfers on your batters before Gabba and Adelaide games.
  • Back quicks at Perth.
  • At Perth and the MCG, consider a captain from the side likely to chase.
  • Always check the XI first. A ground trend will not help a player who misses out.
