CricketDream offers five different ways to play fantasy cricket — each designed for different groups, skill levels, and time commitments. Understanding which format matches your style is the first step to winning.
The 5 Fantasy Cricket Formats on CricketDream
1. Fantasy XI — The Classic (Single Match)
Fantasy XI is the most familiar format. You pick 11 players from two teams, set a captain and vice-captain, and compete based on one match's performance. It resets after every match.
- Duration: One match only (~3 hours)
- Team building: Full control — pick anyone
- Commitment: Low — play whenever you want
- Best for: Casual players, testing new strategies, quick competitions
- Skill vs luck: 60% skill, 40% luck (one match can have variance)
2. Draft — The Competitive (Head-to-Head)
Draft mode is where you compete directly with friends to claim the best players before they do. Snake draft format ensures fairness — if you pick last in Round 1, you pick first in Round 2.
- Duration: One match (~3 hours), but draft happens before match (~30 mins)
- Team building: Strategic — must out-bid/out-pick opponents
- Commitment: Medium — requires synchronous draft session
- Best for: Competitive groups, friends who want head-to-head battles
- Skill vs luck: 75% skill, 25% luck (draft strategy + one match performance)
3. Multi Draft — The Series Champion (Multi-Match Draft)
Draft once, compete across 2–14 matches. Your squad plays every selected match and points accumulate. One draft decides the series winner.
- Duration: Multiple matches (2–14 games over days or weeks)
- Team building: One-time draft, then minor squad adjustments allowed
- Commitment: Medium-High — must attend draft, then update team before each match
- Best for: Groups wanting sustained competition without full season commitment
- Skill vs luck: 80% skill, 20% luck (consistency over series beats single-match variance)
4. Dynasty — The Full Season (Auto-Entry League)
No draft, no squad lock-in. Your Team 1 is auto-entered into every selected match in the league. One league, many matches, cumulative championship.
- Duration: Full IPL season or custom match block (up to 74 matches)
- Team building: Standard Fantasy XI — full control every match
- Commitment: Low-Medium — build your team for each match as normal, Dynasty tracks it automatically
- Best for: Groups that want a season-long championship without the overhead of drafting
- Skill vs luck: 85% skill, 15% luck (consistent picks over 10+ matches separate real skill)
5. Predictor — The Mind Game (Predictions Only)
No team building. Just answer 5 questions per match: Who wins? Man of the Match? Most runs? Most wickets? First innings runs range? Strategy and cricket knowledge are everything.
- Duration: Per-match or multi-match (creator's choice)
- Team building: None — just answer 5 questions
- Commitment: Very low — 2 minutes per match
- Best for: Quick competitions, settling debates, casual fans
- Skill vs luck: 70% skill, 30% luck (match outcomes add variance)
