Two WBBL titles, in 2022/23 and again in 2023/24, still make the Adelaide Strikers one of the four most successful clubs in the competition's history. Their WBBL 2026/27 off-season has been quieter than most so far, with one confirmed piece of news standing out: Sophie Ecclestone is coming back.
Ecclestone Returns to Strikers Blue
England left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone will play for the Strikers again in WBBL|12, the club confirmed on 11 September 2026. It's a low-key headline given her numbers last season: just 6 wickets at 39.50 across 9 innings in 2025/26, well below her usual standard. But her form has turned since. In the Hundred this year she took 8 wickets for Manchester Super Giants at an economy rate of 5.65, the kind of return that made this signing an easy call for Adelaide.
"Sophie is a world-class player whose skill, experience and ability to perform under pressure make her a valuable addition to our group," Strikers coach Luke Williams said. "She made a strong impact both on and off the field during her time with the Strikers last season, and we're delighted to welcome her back for WBBL|12. Having a player of Sophie's calibre strengthens our bowling attack and adds invaluable leadership to the squad."
A New Opening Partner for Wolvaardt
Adelaide's other headline move swaps one England opener for another. Tammy Beaumont, who shared the top of the order with South Africa's Laura Wolvaardt last season, has not been retained. In her place, the Strikers have poached England's Maia Bouchier from Melbourne Stars. Locally, allrounder Maddie Penna has also re-signed, and the club locked in Darcie Brown and Amanda-Jade Wellington on the eve of the movement window opening.
Confirmed Squad So Far
Home ground is Karen Rolton Oval in Adelaide. Adelaide finished 6th in WBBL|11 (3 wins, 4 losses, 3 no results). Source: Cricket Australia's official WBBL|12 squad tracker, checked 30 September 2026.
Ecclestone's economy rate in the Hundred (5.65) is the number worth watching. If she's bowling like that in October, she's a genuine Season Fantasy differential at a fraction of the ownership a Strikers batter will get.
