Nine defeats from ten matches. That was Brisbane Heat's 2025/26 WBBL season, a winless campaign for a club that has two titles in its history. Heading into WBBL|12 they've moved fast to change the picture, locking down two overseas all-rounders before most other clubs had made a single signing.
Sarah Glenn: The First Signing of the Off-Season
England legspinner Sarah Glenn was the very first confirmed WBBL signing anywhere once the contracting embargo lifted, announced 3 September 2026. She only joined Heat as an injury-replacement player for the closing matches of last season, but made an immediate impression, taking 4 for 18 against Sydney Thunder. This time she's contracted for the full competition.
"We're rapt to have 'Glenny' back with us, and this time for the entire competition," Heat coach Mark Sorell said. "She's an outstanding person, great team player, and as we have seen, a very skilful bowler who will complement our attack in whatever role we ask of her. I've been keeping an eye on her bowling during the year and her efforts for Yorkshire and for the Southern Brave in the Hundred have been excellent." Glenn took 7 wickets in 9 matches for Southern Brave in this year's Hundred.
Orla Prendergast Joins as the Second Overseas Signing
A week later, on 10 September, Heat added Ireland allrounder Orla Prendergast, 24, for her second WBBL stint (she played for Adelaide Strikers in 2024/25). Prendergast was one of the stars of this year's T20 World Cup for Ireland, her 63 runs and 1 for 29 against West Indies earning player of the match in Ireland's only win of the tournament.
"Orla is world class, you only had to marvel at her performances at the World Cup to know that, and we're thrilled she is coming to the Heat," Sorell said. "She delivers great versatility for us, bowling up front in the Powerplay or later in the Power Surge, while her batting gives us another strong option in the upper or middle order. As well as being impressive individuals, Orla and Sarah Glenn will be with us for all games plus the Finals."
The trade-off is real: West Indies allrounder Chinelle Henry, who debuted in Heat colours last season, has moved on to reigning champions Hobart Hurricanes, and India's Jemimah Rodrigues has also departed.
Confirmed Squad So Far
Jess Jonassen already holds the all-time WBBL wicket-taking record with 184. Pair her with two new international bowling options and Heat's attack looks a lot different from the side that went winless last season, on paper at least.
