The Renegades start the season, literally, in Chennai on 12 December, under new coach Luke Ronchi. Adam Zampa, Tim Seifert and Andrew Tye have gone, Jonny Bairstow and Michael Bracewell have arrived for the full season, and the attack has lost Jason Behrendorff to shoulder surgery.
What does losing Behrendorff change?
Behrendorff will miss all of BBL|16 and stays with the club in a support role. That removes 145 career wickets at 20.19 and an economy of 7.15 from the attack. The player is still listed in the game at 8 Cr, so do not pick Behrendorff, and if you already have, transfer out before the first lock. The club says it will add a replacement before the season, and CricketDream will load that player when named.
Who is the key batter?
Bairstow plays a first Big Bash at 37, after 6,921 T20 runs from 285 matches, and takes the gloves, so you get a top-order keeper at 9 Cr. Josh Brown has 1,118 runs at a strike rate of 150.67 with a best of 140 and costs 8 Cr. That is a real bargain for an opener.
Where do the wickets come from?
Tom Rogers returns after missing BBL|15 with shoulder surgery and has 76 wickets at 23.59. Will Sutherland and Michael Bracewell add overs, and Bracewell at 8.5 Cr is the all-rounder pick. New leg-spinner Michael Archer took a hat-trick in the recent Top End T20 Series.
