The Big Bash League has crowned a champion fifteen times since the first season in 2011-12, and one club has done most of the winning. Perth Scorchers took BBL|15 on 25 January 2026, their sixth title, and the 2026/27 season opens on 12 December with Perth playing Melbourne Renegades in Chennai.

Perth have won six of the fifteen finals, and they have also lost three (BBL|01, 02 and 10). Sydney Sixers are the club with the most near misses, with five runner-up finishes (BBL|04, 06, 11, 13 and 15) next to their three titles. Melbourne Stars are the only club that has never won.

The record chase of December 2025
The BBL|15 season produced the biggest chase the competition has seen. Perth Scorchers made 257/6, the second-highest total in BBL history, with Cooper Connolly scoring 77 off 37 balls and Finn Allen 79 off 38. Brisbane Heat replied with 258/2 and won with a ball to spare, Matt Renshaw making 102 off 51 and Jack Wildermuth 110 not out off 54. A record 36 sixes were hit in the match, and it was the first time in T20 cricket that two batters made hundreds in the same chase.
How BBL|15 finished
- Qualifier: Perth Scorchers beat Sydney Sixers by 48 runs.
- Knockout: Hobart Hurricanes beat Melbourne Stars by 3 runs on DLS at Bellerive Oval. Beau Webster made 47 and was Player of the Match.
- Challenger: Sydney Sixers beat Hobart Hurricanes by 57 runs.
- Final, 25 January 2026: Perth Scorchers beat Sydney Sixers by six wickets at Perth Stadium. Sixers were all out for 132 (David Payne 3/18, Jhye Richardson 3/32) and Perth chased 133 in 17.3 overs. Mitch Marsh made 44 off 43 balls and Finn Allen 36 in an opening stand of 80.
- Awards: Finn Allen was the leading run scorer with 466 runs, Haris Rauf (Melbourne Stars) the leading wicket-taker with 20, and Sam Harper (Melbourne Stars) the Player of the Tournament.
What is new in 2026/27
The tournament runs from 12 December 2026 to 26 January 2027, with 40 league matches and four finals matches (Qualifier, Knockout, Challenger and Final). The opening match is at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the first BBL match ever played outside Australia. Ben Stokes has signed with Adelaide Strikers, Tom Curran is in the Brisbane Heat squad, Jonny Bairstow is listed for Melbourne Renegades, and Matthew Mott and Andrew Flintoff are new head coaches at Sydney Sixers and Sydney Thunder.
